MAKE-UP COUNTER & SALON MAKE-UP
|
| This is
a very basic level and only qualifies you to work in a salon or at a make-up
counter in a department store.
|
|
PROSTHETICS & SPECIAL EFFECTS
|
| This involves detailed,
often tedious work in factory-type conditions. To protect yourself from toxic
fumes and chemicals you often need to wear gloves and masks. The work involves
use of latex and other materials to create burns, blood, scars and mutilated or
fictional creatures. Employment opportunities are limited mostly to motion
pictures. But before you embark on training in special effects, you should be
aware that only about 5%-10% of film work involves special effects. And since
much of this work is now being done with computer graphics, the demand for
special effects make-up artists is shrinking.

If Media Make-up is the career
you want to pursue, contact AWARD STUDIO, the only specialists in Media Make-up
training.
All classes at AWARD STUDIO are taught personally by Amy Ward. She has worked
internationally for over 19 years as a top make-up artist and photographer for
all aspects of the media. (See
Bio/Credits of Director.)
|
|
CLASS SIZE
|
| Many schools pack 30-40
students into a class with only one instructor. At AWARD STUDIO we hold small
master classes with no more than 6-8 students. This is the only way to insure
maximum individual attention and high quality results.
|
|
EXPERIENCE OF INSTRUCTOR
|
| It is very important
for you to see the published work of your instructor and get a complete list of
the clients they have worked for. Unfortunately, it is not unusual for some
make-up schools to rely on the name of their founder to attract students. The
founder does not teach the classes and often is not involved in the school at
all. You sometimes get a student who recently graduated and has little or no
actual job experience, who has been hired to teach. It's shocking isn't it? |
|
TRAINING TIME ACTUALLY SPENT APPLYING MAKE-UP
|
| At most schools the
students spend the majority of their time taking turns working on each other.
That means they are paying high fees per hour and yet half of the time they are
not actually practicing make-up application, but just sitting around while
other students work on them. At AWARD STUDIO we believe this is a waste of your
time and money. Therefore, we supply models and actors for our students to work
on. At AWARD STUDIO you spend ALL of your time actually applying make-up, not
just sitting around.
|
|
FINDING WORK
|
| Most schools offer
little or no guidance in finding employment once you have completed their
program. At the other extreme, one school requires that you pay for 45 hours of
classes to get this information! At AWARD STUDIO all this information is
included in our course, and we dont drag it out or charge you extra.
|
|
TRAIN WITH A SPECIALIST
|
| Beware of schools that
claim to teach every kind of make-up there is. The professional make-up
industry does not want make-up artists who know a little about everything but
not much about anything. Clients hire artists who are specialists in a
particular field. Decide what area you want to specialize in and train with the
most experienced artist in that special domain.
|
|
THE FINAL CHOICE
|
As you can see,
AWARD STUDIO is the definitive choice for anyone entering the field of Media
Make-up. We are the undisputed specialists in this area.
